World’s Largest LEGO Art Display Back at the Franklin Institute
This February, the renowned travelling exhibition, ‘The Art of the Brick’, is making its anticipated return to Philadelphia’s Franklin Institute after making rounds in European cities like Paris, Milan, Brussels, and Toulouse.
The creator of this innovative exhibition, artist Nathan Sawaya, has masterfully crafted a collection of notable artworks solely from LEGO® bricks. The repertoire comprises an assortment of unique creations and ingenious impressions of prominent art masterpieces, such as Van Gogh’s Starry Night and Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa. Adding a dash of multimedia to the mix, the display also features a gallery of LEGO brick-integrated photography, a result of a rewarding collaboration with award-winning photographer Dean West.
Philadelphia Welcomes a New Addition – ‘PERNiCiEM: The Endangered Species Connection’
Sawaya further expands his collection in Philadelphia with a new addition titled “PERNiCiEM: The Endangered Species Connection” which targets raising global consciousness towards the pressing matter of extinction. The collection communicates the dire conditions of various endangered species through LEGO brick renditions placed in their imagined natural habitats.
In addition to these, visitors can expect to witness reimagined versions of iconic pieces like Basquiat’s Pez Dispenser, Frida Kahlo’s The Frame, and Hilma af Klint’s The Swan No. 17. Furthermore, Sawaya’s largest work to date, ‘Decisions’, constituting an astounding count of 112,306 LEGO bricks will also be displayed.

From art enthusiasts to LEGO fanatics, the exhibit promises to captivate all, offering a 9,000-square-foot play space filled with hundreds of thousands of colorful LEGO bricks for visitors to delve into their creative explorations.
